About This Site
This is a personal website run by a resident of Okinawa. It has two parts: everyday preparedness for people who live here (Japanese only), and a typhoon and earthquake guide for visitors, available in English and Traditional Chinese.
What this site does not do
Bad disaster information can cost lives. For that reason the scope is deliberately limited.
- It does not re-publish real-time disaster information. Evacuation orders, warnings, power outages and transport status are never posted here. Information whose value depends on being current cannot be guaranteed by one person, and stale information leads people to the wrong decision.
- It links only to primary sources. No aggregator sites, no news re-reports — only the organisation that issued the information.
- It never tells you whether to evacuate. Where a judgement call is involved, this site defers to official information and to the safer option.
Instead it concentrates on two things: the shortest path to official primary sources in an emergency, and preparedness knowledge that stays accurate over time.
How articles are written
- Primary sources are read before anything is written. Announcements from the Japan Meteorological Agency, Okinawa Prefecture, municipalities, Okinawa Electric Power and the prefectural water utility are checked directly, and important passages are quoted rather than paraphrased.
- Unverifiable figures are left out. Nothing is published on the basis of "it's probably around this much". Topics whose official documentation could not be confirmed were dropped rather than guessed at.
- Only Okinawa-specific matters are covered. Excellent general disaster-preparedness resources already exist. This site covers what connects to local conditions: typhoon power cuts, island logistics, the large share of people living in concrete apartment buildings.
- Uncertainty resolves toward safety. You will not find "you don't need to evacuate if…" here. Specialist questions — medical equipment, the structural safety of a building — are referred to specialists.
Accuracy of external links
Information that can change (link targets, contact details) is not embedded in article text. It is managed in one place and checked once a year, before the typhoon season in June. The official links currently listed, and the date each was last verified:
